Luke Harmer and friend Dave Powell are taking part in the Bike Ride, their ride of choice, penny farthings. This is the first time, we believe, that this mode of transport has been attempted and they intend to prove that Norfolk is not flat!
On Saturday 12th September they plan to visit as many churches as possible starting at Dave’s family home church in Swanton Abbott (where he got married) and take in Luke’s mum’s church, St Botolph Trunch (where Luke got married) with up to 18 churches in total.
Luke goes on to say that
‘Norfolk churches are beautiful, unique, need our support and were a critical part of my mum, Erika’s life. She responded to a job advert in Germany to work in Britain in the 50’s. She met and married a Norfolk boy, lived in Trunch for over 50 years, was on the PCC and part of the cleaning team until her hips no longer made it possible. Trunch Church and the Churches in the parish welcomed her. They were such an important part of her life, for the community and spirituality. It’s really inspiring – long may they serve as a focal point for the community! Mum passed away last September, and the ride feels a great way to celebrate her life and Norfolk’s amazing churches.’
