The Norfolk Churches Trust, in partnership with the Norfolk Wildlife Trust and the Diocese of Norwich, is proud to launch the the second Norfolk Churchyard Conservation Award after the success of the inaugural award which was introduced as part of our 50th anniversary celebrations in 2026.
The first award was won by Hemblington, All Saints, who received a a specially carved oak plaque along with a cheque for £1,000. The competition is open to everyone (apart from last year’s winner) so applications are welcome from those who took part last year, it could be your turn this year.
So we now more forward to the 2027 award to celebrate the natural and spiritual Heritage of Norfolk’s churchyards, an exciting opportunity for churches across the county to showcase their efforts in protecting and enhancing the biodiversity, beauty and tranquillity of their churchyards.
Why Enter?
Churchyards are not only sacred spaces but also havens for wildlife. This award recognises the vital role churches can play in environmental stewardship – celebrating those who care for these precious places in ways that benefit both people and nature.
Who Can Take Part?
Open to all churches in Norfolk – large or small, rural or urban – whether you have a wildflower meadow, a nesting box, or simply a passion for protecting your patch of God’s earth.

The winning Church will receive an Oak plaque award together with £1,000 prize money
