Welcome to our March Newsletter

Weclome to the first of the Norfolk Churches Trust’s monthly newsletters, we do hope that you find something to pique your interest.

Spring has sprung and recently many of our Norfolk churchyards, like Attlebridge St Andrew, pictured above, have been full of the first blooms of the year, the snowdrop. With that particular flower symbolising renewal and warmer days to come, we would like to share with you some of the unique events that the Trust has lined up for those more temperate days ahead.

We have some special ‘member-only’ events have lined up for you. If you are not yet a member, perhaps this year is the time to join?

Justin Nolan is returning to host another fascinating tour for us, this time featuring Glandord, St Martin and Cley, St Margaret. Why not join him on Saturday 12th April to find out about the Middle Ages as they were and as they ought to have been? The tour commences at Glandford, and concludes at Cley, where afternoon tea will be served. The cost is £50 pp and places are limited.

Tuesday 15th April at New Victory Hall, Neatishead is the venue for the first of a series of lectures across the county, which are free to members (£10 to non-members). Professional ecclesiologist, John Vigar, will be our guest speaker and his talk will look at the history and development of the English parish church, with a guide to their architecture, furnishings, and social history. Light refreshments will be served after the talk.

On Thursday 5th June come and join us for A Day out in Walsingham. Scilla Landale will be our guide and will help us discover the history of Walsingham, seen through its spectacular collection of stained and engraved glass, followed by a walking tour around four churches in the village. The timings are from 10.30am to 4pm, the cost £30 per person. For more information including the programme for the day see the events section of our website.

These events will sell out quickly so for more information including how to book any of our events, visit our Events page.

Of course we cannot forget ‘the’ event of spring, the Stately Car Boot Sale 2025! Sunday 4th May from 10am to 3pm at Sennowe Park, kindly hosted by Mr & Mrs Charles Temple-Richards and Mr Tom Cook.

This event takes place only once every three years, so make sure you don’t miss out. Pitches are on sale now so if you are downsizing, clearing out the attic, or simply decluttering, this is your chance to pass on preloved items to new homes. Regular pitches are priced at £95 and large pitches at £150. Remember this event will help preserve Norfolk’s heritage with proceeds helping to fund essential repairs and to commence restoration works at our county’s churches, of which we are privileged to have so many. Book online at our website www.norfolkchurchestrust.org.uk/events

Later this month, for the first time we will be selling entry tickets in advance, look out for the email letting you know when sales open.

We will shortly be sending out invitations to our members for VIP’s tent where you will be able to enjoy champagne and canapés on the terrace of beautiful Sennowe Park. So, save the date and keep an eye on your inbox for more details.

The numbers for the 2024 Bike Ride Walk & Drive event have been finalised and the ‘Scores on the Door’ are above. A big thank you for those who took part, volunteered, and/or sponsored, it is another fantastic result.

The date for your diary for 2025 is Saturday 13th September, we hope to see you again then.

The 2024 photo competition has been judged, and the winners will be announced shortly, in a separate newsletter.
