Entry to the School Art Competition closes today 8th May.
We are absolutely delighted to report that we have received more than 2,500 entries, many, many more than we were expecting. So, a big thank you to all the pupils who created the pieces of art and a special thank you to the teachers who supported them.

Primary age children were encouraged to create a drawing or painting of their local church. Their brief to include all or part of a church, the exterior, interior, or even a small detail, maybe a stained-glass window or a gargoyle.
Our Chairman, Rosabelle Batt, first conceived the idea of the competition as a way to inspire the next generation to engage with Norfolk’s remarkable historic churches. She has been delighted by the response from schools and young artists across the county adding ‘the creativity, imagination and enthusiasm shown by the children has been a genuine ray of light. Their artwork beautifully celebrates the heritage, community spirit and sense of place that make Norfolk so special, and we hope as many people as possible will enjoy and share in their achievements’.

We illustrate here just a small selection of the many wonderful entries that we have received, we think they are fantastic, with some real budding artists amongst our county’s primary school children. We will be exhibiting as many of these artworks as possilbe at the Crypt Gallery at Norwich School in Cathedral close in mid-June, so there will be an opportunity to see these creations up close. More details including dates and times to follow.

As you can see the preliminary judging has begun.
The finalists work will be judged by a celebrity panel consisting of: –
Susie Fowler Watt: BBC Look East presenter
Ben Youngs: former England and Leicester Tiger’s rugby player
Lauren Hemp MBE: WSL Manchester City and England footballer
Looking at the quality of the entries we don’t envy them their task.
The winners will receive their prizes from Dame Emma Bridgewater at a special ceremony on 17th June.

We would like to share an extract from one of the letters we received.

So thank you once again to all those schools who have sent in entries we really have been impressed.
