As ever the range of works covered by these grants are varied and include essential repairs identified in Quinquennial Inspection Reports, the five yearly architect inspection of church buildings, as at Brockdish, Carleton Rode (water damage in the chancel main image) and North Tuddenham. These types of essential works, if tackled early enough, can prevent the need for more extensive work in the future.

Water ingress is not the friend of a church building, and grants have been made to replace broken rainwater goods, and drains as at Shelfanger and Stibbard. At Irstead, urgent repairs are required to four of the buttresses where water has made its way into the interior of the church causing damage to plasterwork and the medieval rood screen.
At Gissing work will shortly be under way for phase 3 of the replacement of all the windows, which without repair would have a detrimental effect on the integrity of the building. At Tattersett, following a grant awarded by the Trust in 2023 on a report on the state of the medieval wall paintings there, work now needs to take place to conserve them, therefore the Trust has awarded an additional grant towards this cost. At Heydon essential roof reparis are required and at Stody a grant was made available for initial investigation works required to ascertain the cost to replace the roof. At Martham a grant was awarded to repairs to medieval tombs and gravestones in the churchyard.

At West Raynham, the St Margaret’s in Ruins Conservation Trust is working to stabilize the walls with plans to conserve the site and establish a Centre of Excellence to promote heritage conservation and green skills training for future generations. Due to the closure of the Listed Places of Worship Grant Scheme that enabled VAT to be reclaimed on eligible repair and maintenance works, the project costs have increased significantly. The Trust has allocated a fund to assist with this shortfall should other grant applications not come to fruition.
It is thanks to our members, supporters and those that attend events and take part in our Sponsored Bike Ride, Walk & Drive and Secret Artist Auction that the Trust can support the churches listed here.
