Pictured here is septuagenarian Pat with two of her grandchildren.
Here in her own words is the story of her day.
‘Here I am now 78 with two of my grandchildren. I have been doing this bike ride since hearing about it when you first started and I think now I am ‘ancient’, they thought they would come along to look after me. I thought 15 miles would be enough for me now and we went to 11 churches. We started at Strumpshaw Church where my granddaughter had a coffee, as I think she fell out of bed, got dressed and jumped on her bike and so needed the caffeine to get her started.

This photo was taken at Limpenhoe church where there were homemade cakes, homemade jams to buy and a friendly welcome. We all had to have a some of their lovely refreshments (and Melissa another cup of coffee). I had a welcome cup of tea and Oliver had a cold drink. All that was asked was a donation for the wonderful cakes and sausage rolls. To get to Limpenhoe from Cantley we met three tractors coming towards us and the road only just got a tractor along it, so we had to scramble up the small spaces in the hedges which all adds to the fun!
We travelled on to Freethorpe, Moulton then on to Beighton church in the main photo where we ate our lunch. We ended up at Lingwood Church and lingered for a while until the person manning the church said she could see rain coming down on my bike, so I scrambled the children, and we made a dash for home. Unfortunately, we didn’t quite make it before we got wet, but they wanted to see their grandad, so we hurried back to my house. We were wet but we got there just before the thunderstorm arrived. They didn’t mind a bit because we had had such a lovely day. We have enjoyed it every year. I think last year was the only year I have missed’.
Thank you Pat for taking time to send in your photos and story of your day and of course for once again taking part in the Bike Ride, Walk & Drive. We love it that our participants span the generations, and that the day is often a real family affair.
Please send any photos and or stories of your day to media@norfolkchurchestrust.org.uk.
