John Hurst *
John is a professional watercolourist and author, who has been associated with Norfolk since the mid-70s when he visited the coast in search of landscape compositions and scarce birds.
Since permanent Norfolk residency in 2004, John has continued to stage several major exhibitions each year, completing commissions for prominent patrons including Royal families and well-known figures in sport, theatre, landowning and media.
John’s lifelong, figurative style resulted from his inspiration from Edwardian landscape artists such as Cotman, Walter Langley and Edward Seago with added enthusiasms for the ornithological studies of Sir Peter Scott.
As a specialist in ‘topographical distance’ John uses layered tints and foregrounds composed by a dry brush technique.
John has published five books including his memoir, Watercolour Words. Fifty Years which was shortlisted in the East Anglia Book Awards.
As a practising Christian and passionate about the architectural, environmental and spoken culture of Norfolk, she is pleased to support the Norfolk Churches Trust.
