A record number of members have joined the Norfolk Churches Trust, it was reported at the latest quarterly council meeting.

Since March, a total of 43 new Friends of the Norfolk Churches Trust have joined – bringing the total to 564.

There was also an increase of 21 parochial church councils becoming “Friends” in the same period boosting the number to 321.

The “life friends” represents the third largest section of membership with a total of 289 and almost unchanged on the previous quarter.

The success of the trust’s recent fund-raisers including the House by the Church in May, which made more than £20,000, and also the successful tour of churches in the STANTA military training area, led to an increase in applications to become “Friends.”

The heritage conservation charity, which was founded in 1976, currently has more than 1550 Friends.

Membership costs £30 single, or £45 for joint. PCC membership £30. Life membership costs £500 or joint life membership £750.
