Norfolk Churches Trust Summer Party – an evening on the Broads

Thank you to those who attended the Norfolk Churches Trust’s Summer Party on the Norfolk Broads last Wednesday evening.  The event started at Horning church in the way only summer events should, with strawberry cream scones and Prosecco.   Supper was served aboard the Southern Comfort, which being Jubilee year included Coronation Chicken.  Thanks to the sterling efforts of one Tom Fitzalan Howard in keeping the bank clear, the 70 foot Southern Comfort was able to moor at St Benet’s Abbey.  Our guests were treated to a wonderful, guided tour of the site by Marion Jackson and Barry Elliot – dressed as a very convincing monk – volunteers from the Norfolk Archaeological Trust, so our gratitude to them.  Our thanks to the Reverend David Smith who, at short notice, took the Compline Service by the Cross on the Abbey site.  The return trip was lifted by the serving of Strawberry Mousse, Shortbread and Cheese, which was kindly donated by Mrs Temple.  Overall, it was an extremely happy evening, and everybody seemed to enjoy themselves.

Special thanks to Scilla Landale and Mair McFadyen for all their work to make the evening a success and to David Dockerty, Skipper of the Southern Comfort, and his crew for making us so welcome and giving us a wonderful trip to St. Benet’s Abbey.

Proceeds from the evening will came to just under £2,500 will go directly to helping maintain the wonderful churches of Norfolk.

Cream Tea was served in the attractive, 13th Century, St Benedict’s Church in Horning
