50 years celebration

Sustainable Flower Arranging – part of Heritage Skills & Maintenance Day – Foulden, All Saints

Date: 18 April 2026 from 12 noon free

The Sustainable Church Flowers movement began as a grassroots initiative in the small rural parish of Harpley, Worcestershire,  the aim to encourage churches, wherever possible to use seasonal and local flowers and foliage, and to phase out single use floral foam, which cannot be recycled or composted.

We are pleased to announce that the Dereham and District Flower club will be joining us for our Heritage Skills & Maintenance Day at Foulden – All Saints , IP26 5AA.

They will be demonstrating sustainable flower arranging techniques including a pedestal, a windowsill arrangement and an altar arrangement from noon on the day and will be happy to answer any questions during and after the demonstration.

In February of this year the General Synod passed a motion put forward by the Diocese of Worcester  as follows: –

That the synod:

  1. a) embrace the principles of the Sustainable Church Flowers movement which encourages the promotion of the use of local, seasonal and fully biodegradable/compostable flowers and foliage.
  2. b) encourage cathedrals, churches and churchyards – wherever possible – to source flowers and foliage locally and seasonally for use in worship and church life.
  3. c) call on cathedrals, churches and churchyards to eliminate the use of floral foam (oasis) and all similar non-biodegradable and non-reusable products and techniques, while rediscovering traditional and environmentally-friendly methods of presentation and display.

Therefore this event could not be more timely.
