Bike Ride total will help almost 300 churches almost £94k raised

Bike Riders have helped to raise almost £94,000 for churches in Norfolk.

The final amount raised by supporters of the Norfolk Churches Trust’s annual fund-raising event topped 2018 by £2,190 to a total of £93,685.27.

A delighted organiser Charlie Inglis said that even more fund-raisers took part in last September’s event. The number rose from 541 to 567, he added.

A total of 293 churches and places of worship will benefit, up from 279 in 2018, and share half of the overall total raised.

The number of churches visited increased to 3,210 – up from 2,808 the previous year. “It has been a great success again as the amount raised has increased,” said Mr Inglis. “We’re going in the right direction with more supporters taking part, more churches visited and helping more churches,” he added.

“I’m really looking forward to the next Bike Ride on Saturday, September 12. Make a note in your diary now,” said Mr Inglis.

He said that while many cyclists took the opportunity to visit as many churches as possible, the event encouraged others to walk, canoe, ride or drive.

Before Christmas, the Bike Ride total had exceeded the 2018 total. Mr Inglis appreciated the efforts of those supporting the Norfolk Churches Trust’s annual event.

The annual Bike Ride has raised more than £2.8m for churches of all denominations in the past 33 years. A  record £100,216 was raised in 2016.

The Norfolk Churches Trust welcomes members. It costs about £2.50 per month to become a Friend of  the Norfolk Churches Trust. Annual membership costs £30pa or £45pa for joint – see the website for details.
