The Trust leases twelve churches from the Diocese of Norwich and one from the Roman Catholic Diocese of East Anglia. All of these churches are closed, in that they are no longer used for regular services, have no clergy attached to them and are no longer part of the parish system. We are responsible for ensuring that the churches are weather-tight and insured.
Occasional services are held in these churches. In some cases they are arranged by the local community and clergy, and in others by one of the Trust’s Chaplains. Services are publicised on the Events page of the website. Weddings and Baptisms also take place in our churches, usually for people with a family connection with the church: they can be arranged with the local priest.
We welcome local community involvement with the churches we care for, and are indebted to the local volunteers who act as key holders so the churches can be kept open to visitors during daylight hours as far as possible. If you are planning a visit, it may be worth checking with the key holders before setting out.
